Nesting depth (a bare leaf is depth 1; each AND/OR/NOT adds a level) and
total leaf count of a filter tree. Backs the cap superRefine below, and
exported so the builder's cap affordances measure trees with the SAME
arithmetic instead of a mirrored copy.
